Monarch’s Curse
A downloadable game for Windows
About the Game
Monarch’s Curse is a short, dark fantasy action RPG where you explore a dungeon full of danger, mystery, and monsters. The entire game takes place underground, inside the cursed ruins of a forgotten kingdom that fell to forbidden magic.
You play as an adventurer who enters the dungeon seeking power, only to find that everything comes with a cost. The deeper you go, the more your body begins to change. Each boss you defeat gives you a unique Blessing—and a Curse—slowly transforming you into something inhuman.
This is a single-player, offline game with no online features. There are 9 unique bosses and 3 different endings, each tied to the lore of the kingdom, and every boss you defeat opens up new paths in a non-linear dungeon. You can explore in any direction, uncover hidden rooms, and talk to strange NPCs who might help (or trick) you.
The game was developed in Unity over the course of 4 months, and it’s my first finished project as a solo developer. It’s free to play, controller supported, and inspired by Dark Souls and the anime Made in Abyss—both in tone and design.
If you enjoy dark settings, cryptic quests, and short but challenging adventures, I hope you’ll enjoy Monarch’s Curse.
Boss Battles
Challenging boss fights that test your timing, reflexes, and adaptability. Every boss has their own fighting style, patterns, and abilities, making each battle feel different from the last.
Some fights are fast and aggressive, others are slower but more deadly. Learning to dodge, parry, and strike at the right time is key to survival. Defeating a boss doesn’t just move the story forward—it changes your character in ways you can’t ignore.
NPCs & Questlines
The dungeon isn’t empty. Strange characters still linger in the dark—some human, some not. You might meet some creatures that were once people.
Some may help you. Others might lie.
Quests are cryptic and require careful attention. There are no glowing markers or quest logs—just hints, clues, and choices that change what you find.
Weapons & Combat
You’ll find weapons scattered throughout the dungeon—hidden in chests, dropped by enemies, or sold by certain merchant. Each weapon has its own feel, and some are better suited to certain enemies or situations.
Weapon also comes with a unique Strong Attack—a powerful, charged move that deals extra damage. They’re risky to use, but incredibly satisfying when timed right.
Try out different weapons, learn their move sets, and find your favorite way to fight.
How to Play
Combat in Monarch’s Curse is all about timing. You’ll need to dodge, or parry enemy attacks to survive—and sometimes, picking the wrong option can get you killed.
When you see a red crossed swords symbol, it means the enemy is about to use a move that can’t be parried. You’ll have to dodge or get out of the way, fast.
On the other hand, parrying regular attacks not only stops damage—it also restores a bit of your health (20%), giving skilled players a way to recover without using items.
It’s tough, but rewarding. The more you learn, the better you get.
